Why does the Heavy Water Exist?
WHY HEAVY WATER?
The Heavy Water was the answer to a chorus of voices asking for me to make the boost in the Dane available as a separate pedal. So, we did this, but I wanted to provide a more versatile pedal and as such 2 boosts were put into the same box. It might seem ludicrous, but I’ll explain why in a moment.
The Boost in the Heavy water is designed to provide an absolutely incredible level of boost but it does it in such a way to be more useful to you the guitarist. The headroom the pedal offers means that whatever you run into the Heavy Water gets louder without adding its own distortion to the signal, right up until the upper reaches of Heavy Waters boost control.
We also added a Lows control which gives you the opportunity to tailor your guitar to the pedal and then to your amp, it prevents the low end getting “flubby” and overwhelming the front end of your amp in a non-musical way. This lows control is the secret to maintaining control over your boost levels despite having masses of boost on tap.
What about the second boost?
The second boost (left hand side)offers more of the same, but with reduced headroom by introducing a pair of germanium diodes into the circuit that begins to clip the signal musically as the boost level increases. The second boost was added because it offers a different take on the boost but also because when combined with the first boost, the result is more than the sum of their parts.
Boosting the right-hand side boost into the left-hand side but keeping the left hand side boost lower yields a very nice overdrive that feels and responds like Poweramp distortion.
I went this route because I’d built a similar type of boost arrangement when I was doing DIY and it always made me smile every time I used it. Like the DIY version I built many moons ago,
the Heavy Water is designed to take what you have, add to it and work with it. A truly awesome tool to improve your amp and other pedals sound. Oh and for those that use switchers, we offer a variant that allows independent control of each side.
TLDR: So why am I telling you all of this about the HEAVY WATER? Because it's two boosts in one box that work in harmony with each other and crucially with your amp and other pedals.
